Zilker Park is a publicly owned 350 acre park located in South Austin between Barton Springs Pool and Lake LBJ. The land for the park was donated by AJ Zilker in 1917, but was not developed into a park until the 1930s under the supervision of the

Citizens Works Administration. Located next to the hike and bike trail, and Lady Bird lake, the park serves as an important part of the ongoing culture of Austin.

Some of the sights at Zilker are the Botanical Gardens, aquatic habitats, a cactus garden, Hartman prehistoric garden, butterfly trail and the Umlauf sculpture garden. Barton Springs pool, 3 acres of BLUE spring fed water whose average temperature is 68 degrees all year around. The Native-Americans in the area believed that the waters had healing properties.

Yearly events that you should always get out of your Austin apartment and enjoy include the Zilker Park Kite Festival, Blues on the Green, Ballet in the Park, and the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
