We all love mansions, but who wants to clean them? Apartment living is much, much easier. This doesn't mean that you have to forgo mansions entirely, especially if you live in the Austin area. The Texas Governor's Mansion welcomes visitors, giving them a taste of mansion living without all of the work. (Stick with apartment living, it's so much easier and more fun).

The Texas Governor's Mansion is a historic

site that rests in downtown Austin. The structure was built in 1854 and it has been called home by every Texas governor since 1856. This makes it the oldest house in Texas to be continuously inhabited.

The mansion is now a historic landmark that continues to house the governor in spite of a fire on June 8, 2008. There was significant damage on the structure because of the fire but the building is under renovation and well on its way to recovery.

The Texas Governor's Mansion is one of three major public buildings built in the middle of the 1850's. The State Capitol was completely destroyed by fire in 1881 and was replaced in 1888. The General Land Office Building still stands as it was and the Governor's Mansion is experiencing some reconstruction but it promises many more years of enjoyment.
